In a stunning report by Dem-friendly NBC News, “a reportedly frustrated and furious” President Joe Biden is presented as feeble, not in control, unsure of how to move forward and surprised that his poll numbers are abysmal and his handlers constantly feel the need to walk back his comments.
An excerpt from the NBC report reads:
Biden is rattled by his sinking approval ratings and is looking to regain voters’ confidence that he can provide the sure-handed leadership he promised during the campaign, people close to the President say.
Crises have piled up in ways that have at times made the Biden White House look flat-footed: record inflation, high gas prices, a rise in Covid case numbers — and now a Texas school massacre that is one more horrific reminder that he has been unable to get Congress to pass legislation to curb gun violence.
Democratic leaders are at a loss about how he can revive his prospects by November, when midterm elections may cost his party control of Congress.
“I don’t know what’s required here,” said Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., whose endorsement in the 2020 Democratic primaries helped rescue Biden’s struggling candidacy. “But I do know the poll numbers have been stuck where they are for far too long.”
The Daily Caller reports that White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates pushed back against the NBC report, particularly the references to the chronic need for corrections and clarification of the President’s comments.
“As we’ve said before,” assured Bates, no clarifications of the President’s remarks are ever issued without his direct approval.”
Biden’s declarations that are inaccurate, run contrary to U.S. policy or exceed his authority are legendary.
From embellished statements about his past, to warmongering comments about Russian President Putin and Taiwan, to false statements regarding the availability of COVID vaccines, to clueless statements about the economy, many believe Biden has become a liability to his party.
A RedState report suggests that Biden is not in control.
But who exactly is the President here? Biden’s kept on a tight leash. He doesn’t speak to the press much, he is very rarely allowed to speak freely, and when he does his White House is quick to correct him. …
… If Biden is not in control of his administration, and if his Chief of Staff is incapable of keeping things together, then who is actually in charge?
The NBC report suggests that Biden is “furious that his remarks were being seen as unreliable” and thus making him out to look weak, and he reminds “his staff that he’s the one who is president.”
The report notes that Biden informed his handlers that the “so-called clean-up campaign” conducted by his aides to walk back his remarks undermines both him and the “authenticity that fueled his rise.”
“Biden is frustrated. If it’s not one thing, it’s another,” a person close to the President told NBC, claiming that Biden feels like everything is going wrong at once. Interestingly, Biden seems to have more common ground with Americans on this point than he does with his initiatives.
According to the report, Biden’s perception is that the media and Americans are not giving him proper credit for “the economy.” He is also upset that key leaders in the Democratic Party do not adequately defend him and is particularly puzzled by his “plummeting approval rating.”
“He’s now lower than Trump, and he’s really twisted about it,” a source told NBC.
