The White House is firing back at Senator Rick Scott after his latest series of television ads blasting President Biden, claiming that he is “exploiting inflation to rip off working families with more welfare for the rich.”
Scott, R-Fla., released the advertisements claiming that Biden was responsible for “destroying America’s economy.”
“It’s time to be honest with the American people. Joe Biden is unfit for office and should resign,” says Scott in the ad, which shows a clip of President Biden referring to Senator Scott as a senator from Wisconsin, and warns that his policies will place America in a recession.
The White House released a response on Monday, defending Biden’s response to increasing inflation.
“Those are interesting words to choose about a President who inherited an economy in its worst state of crisis since the Great Depression and delivered historic economic growth and unprecedented job creation to make our recovery the strongest of any in the world,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates told Fox News Monday.
“Tellingly, this comes from a senior member of Republican leadership whose hardcore MAGA economic agenda would be an economic nightmare for the middle class – raising taxes on 75 million working people while sunsetting Medicare and Social Security and requiring a super majority to ask the wealthy to pay their fair share,” Bates told Fox News. “The President is actually taking on the global problem of inflation that’s hitting all over the world after COVID – and lowering costs for families like energy and prescription drugs is his highest priority.”
The ads are a part of Scott’s Rescue America plan which he hopes will be able to be implemented should Republicans take back a majority in the Senate in November. While the plan has received criticism from Democrats and pushback from some Republicans, Scott seems hopeful that the advertising campaign will be effective against Biden’s presidency.
Biden has faced significant criticism in recent months for the mounting increase in inflation with rates reaching 8.6%, the highest since 1981. Gasoline prices have increased by 48.7% since last year, and food prices have increased 10.1%.
President Biden has largely placed blame for these increases in prices on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and claims that tackling inflation is his “top economic priority.”
