Like a mouse flipping off an elephant, a Ukrainian soldier recommended Russian soldiers surrender before they die fighting his country.
The video from claiming to be a Ukrainian soldier was posted to Twitter Friday afternoon and has already been viewed almost 2 million times. The young, clean-shaven man is shown at night wearing military fatigues and bearing a semi-automatic rifle.
“I’ll record this in Russian to make it be f#!*-ing clear,” he begins, in a version with English subtitles added.
“What, is the Ukrainian night quiet?” he mocked. “As the great Ukrainian writer Gogol said, is everything good with you kids? Do you like our Bayraktars?”
The Bayraktar is a potent Turkish approximation of a predator drone that can rain on an enemy’s parade in a hurry. The country doesn’t have more than a few dozen of them but they are effective against armored vehicles and air defense systems.
“What do you think is flying above you right now?,” he continued. “What is rustling in the bushes my guys? What thoughts do you have about that?”
“What the f— could it be? Dudes, you are f—ed!”
The soldier says his army is fine and points out the Russian army is stopped, for now. He explains Ukraine is calling up me from the reserves to join the fighting, adding his country still has planes and tanks.
“[W]hy don’t you f#!*-ing surrender, while you still have that chance?” he asked, adding many Russian soldiers have already surrendered. “[I]t’s not that bad, really. It may be a mistake but we treat prisoners of war fairly well.”
“So you are stuck right now, and soon we’ll start kicking your ass!”
Recent reports from media outlets with reporters in Ukraine indicate the Russian army has not secured any of its objectives yet, in the third day of their invasion.
