Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) formerly represented her state in the House of Representatives. She and Tammy Duckworth were the first female combat veterans elected to Congress. She served eight years on the House Foreign Affairs, Armed Services, and Homeland Security Committees, where she dealt with national security issues.
Her current Army Reserve rank is Major and just returned from a deployment in Africa in support of anti-terrorism efforts there. She recently returned to America and this morning posted comments on Twitter that she later amplified in a Fox News interview with Bret Baier.
In a tweet that embedded her interview with Baier, she said she had hoped President Joe Biden would keep his promise to try to unite our country, but feels his administration has used race and identity politics to divide America. “Our freedom of speech and civil liberties are under assault, inflation is going through the roof and we’ve got open borders” lamented Gabbard.

Gabbard later tweeted her view that President Biden’s open door policy on immigration a disaster. A follow up tweet opined, “We can’t have a secure nation if we don’t secure our borders.” She reiterated that in her Baier interview.
She first noted she considers Biden a friend for whom she holds no malice. “But I have to say that the the policies and decisions that have been made via executive order by the White House have led to this open border policy, with thousands, tens of thousands, of people coming and attempting to and sometimes successfully streaming across the border,” said the former Congresswoman.
When Baier changed the topic to include a discussion of America’s withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, Gabbard said she agreed with the policy but not its execution. “Unfortunately, the way that this administration executed that withdrawal has been an utter and abject disaster, which is continuing to play out as we speak,” she said.
She was asked if she was still a Democrat after receiving continued criticism on many fronts. The army reservists told the Fox News host she was, adding she was less interested in party politics than she was in putting her country first. Gabbard expressed concern that powerful people and leaders place partisan politics and a selfish desire for power ahead of the interests of the country.
Near the end of his interview, Baier asked Gabbard about her thoughts on the Durham investigation in light of the indictment of Hillary Clinton attorney Michael Sussman. The attorney is accused of spreading the Russia narrative against President Donald Trump with the help of various media outlets.
John Durham is a federal prosecutor appointed by former U.S. Attorney General William Barr as a Special Counsel, in 2019, to examine how the FBI and intelligence community investigated Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election, and any potential coordination with Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. One area of focus in Durham’s inquiry has been the FBI’s reliance on anti-Trump research that was conducted by discredited former British spy Christopher Steele, whom U.S. officials cited in applications for secretive surveillance warrants from a super-secret court.
Gabbard said it confirms her belief about a power elite, with people like Hillary Clinton, who work with the media, the deep state, in order to destroy anyone they deem to be a threat to their power. She added that people like herself and Donald Trump pose a threat to those she called the power elite and believes the powerful will do anything they feel is needed to eliminate the threat.
“This is actually a threat to our country and our democracy,” Gabbard said, “the arrogance that these people have in thinking they have the right to manipulate the American people, what they view, what they hear, what they see, all to preserve their own selfish interest, not caring at all about the impact on the country, the impact of the American people or who gets hurt along the way.”
