A Haitian man who emigrated to America and went to Harvard is now trashing the Constitution during media interviews to get sound bytes that will help him advertise his newly released book.
Elie Mystal, the justice correspondent for “The Nation”, appeared Friday on ABC’s “The View” to promote his book “Allow Me to Retort: A Black Guy’s Guide to the Constitution”.
The View co-host Ana Navarro asked author Elie Mystal his views on the U.S. Constitution because of points raised in his book.
“Is it a living document or is it a sacred document?” she asked.
“It’s certainly not sacred, all right, let’s start there,” Mystal responded. “The Constitution is kind of trash. Now let’s just, again, let’s just talk as adults for a second.”
“What did you say?” asked a seemingly shocked co-host Joy Behar. “It’s what?”
The Haitian-born, Harvard graduate with a Don King hairdo reiterated his view that the U.S. Constitution “is kind of trash”.
“It was written by slavers and colonists, and White people who were willing to make deals with slavers and colonists,” he exclaimed. “They didn’t ask anyone who looks like me what they thought about the Constitution.”

“This document was written without the consent of black and brown people in this country and without the consent of women in this country,” Mystal added.
With a straight face, the author said modern America should ignore the Constitution as it was written and interpret it “in a way that makes sense for our modern world”.
Ben Shapiro probably spit out his coffee when he heard the guest trash-talking the Constitution, based on his Twitter post commenting on the episode.
“When he writes a document that ends up founding the most powerful and tolerant nation in world history, I will take this buffoon more seriously,” Shapiro fumed.
Mystal said the U.S. Constitution is not good, in the introduction of his book. “It is a document designed to create a society of enduring white male dominance, hastily edited at the margins to allow for what basic political rights white men could be convinced to share,” the first generation American opined.
The foreign-born author glosses over inconvenient facts like how the Constitution specifically authorized the federal government to ban importing slaves, beginning in 1808. Nor does he acknowledge that President Thomas Jefferson signed the 1807 legislation that codified that ban beginning January 1, 1808. Had the Constitution not laid a path for slavery opponents to follow in pursuit of ending slavery, who knows if another country would have demonstrated the same sort of idealistic leadership.
