Those interested in the happenings of Hollywood’s elite are making much of a newly surfaced video, which some say shows Jada Pinkett Smith laughing after her husband, Will Smith, slapped comedian Chris Rock
The now-viral moment happened on Sunday during the 94th annual Academy Awards.
The video, recorded by a member of the audience sitting a row behind the Smith family, was posted Wednesday evening and quickly recorded more than 350,000 views.
The footage presents a new angle of the face-slapping event, which followed segment host Chris Rock’s insensitive attempt at a joke at Jada Pinkett Smith’s expense. Will Smith took offense, walked up to the stage, and slapped Rock in the face.
The video, posted to Instagram by @akademiks, includes this caption: “Here is an angle most people have not seen. Look at Jada’s reaction.”
Some believe the video shows Jada’s head moving forward in laughter as the scene unfolds.
The Smiths have not yet responded to the newly released video.
That video, shared by the TikTok account @sincerelyordinary, zooms in on Chris Rock’s face as he prepares to present an Academy Award following the incident.
To his credit, Rock continued with his presentation Sunday night and performed Wednesday night in Boston, telling that crowd he is “still processing” the incident, according to the Post.
Smith won an Oscar later that evening and took the opportunity to apologize to the Academy during his teary acceptance speech. At the time, Smith did not apologize to Chris Rock, but according to Page Six, he has since issued a formal apology.
Academy officials have said they will “explore further action and consequences.”
