The U.S. Navy SEAL who killed Osama bin Laden denounced Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) advocating assassinating Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A Wednesday post to Senator Graham’s Twitter account drew condemnation from liberal journalists and Republican politicians hours after it was posted.
Former SEAL Robert O’Neill Friday told TMZ that, as a Senator, Graham shouldn’t have made those comments. He noted Graham is on the Senate Armed Services Committee and opined the Senator should use backdoor channels available to politicians like him to get the work done instead of talking about it on news TV. O’Neill remarked that politicians shouldn’t be worrying about ratings because they are not television stations.
“I should be able to say it because, you know, I’m a civilian now,” stated O’Neill. “I’ve done my time. And Lindsey Graham he’s been in — just like everybody else in Washington, D.C. — he’s been up there for 30 years, or whatever.”
The former Navy fighter said he disagrees with Graham publicly saying the words he said but appeared fine with implementing the deed through backdoor channels. “You know, I know Lindsey Graham,” he said, “I wish I knew what he was thinking, but I mean, lately there’s been a lot of people on Capitol Hill, both sides of the aisle, that don’t really know what the Hell they’re talking about.”
When the network asked O’Neill his advice for someone planning to make Graham’s words a reality, he said he would just say try to talk some sense into him.
“I literally think Vladimir Putin is losing his mind and whomever is the closest person to him should say something,” O’Neill said. “Say something. Like I said, I’ve been to war I don’t like war. I killed Bin Laden [but] I’m not happy with murder.”
“But someone has to do something about this because so many innocent people dying every single day in Ukraine and it’s a shame, it’s over nothing,” he added. “It’s over nothing. Having said that — Bin Laden had it coming. Just saying.”
