A newly naturalized citizen posted an eloquent rebuttal to President Joe Biden’s infamous Philadelphia speech where he labeled Republicans extremists.
“Over the last several days you have looked into the camera and called me and millions of others like me, extremists,” the man said in a TikTok video that has received almost 400,000 likes.
“You have told me and my children that we don’t matter to you because of our beliefs,” he said, adding later, “You have gone so far as to suggest we would not stand a chance against the government’s F15s in defending our country from tyranny.”
The TikTok user, using the handle “Willful Possibility,” claimed that Democratic leaders have followed President Biden’s cue and called Republicans terrorists. He expressed disappointment the president did not take the time to listen to people like him to acknowledge his humanity and address his concerns.
“I was born in a country where my rights were not always guaranteed,” he remarked, “and to hear the President of America — the leader of the free world — dismiss more than 70 million of his own countrymen as fringe and extreme breaks my heart.”
The TikTok user explained this is why many like him embrace the call to “Make America great again”:
“It’s because we believe our great nation is under a moral, physical and fiscal assault,” he said. “We are MAGA because we want to restore the promise in the hearts of our children, that this is the place where their efforts will be rewarded and where their true potential can be realized.”
Watch:
The new U.S. citizen’s calm delivery of thoughtful disagreement with the president contrasted sharply with the vitriol voiced by Biden in his Thursday remarks from Philadelphia.
“Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic,” Biden remarked during his September 1 speech outside Philadelphia’s Independence Hall.
The president paid lip service to moderates by noting he does not consider all Republicans as enemies of democracy. He spoke from the place where both the Articles of Confederation and the U.S. Constitution were debated and then voted upon.
“MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution,” he added later. “They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people.”
At least one TikTok user disagrees with the president.
