On Sunday, Arizona gubernatorial Republican candidate Kari Lake scolded reporters for being poor journalists.
After a full day of campaigning, which included a “Black Voices for Kari” campaign event, an interview with CNN, and a post-interview Q & A session, Lake was asked to comment on the criticism she has received for being an “election denier.”
Lake provided a brief response, desiring to keep the conversation focused on what Arizona needs to do to deal with immigration, education, crime and economic issues. Lake replied:
“If you’re gonna start throwing around the term ‘election denier,’ let’s remember who the other election deniers were: Hillary Clinton and all the Democrats.”
Lake then asked for the next question. The second reporter asked a similar question: Why is Kari Lake an election denier?
At that point, Lake asked for her 20-year-old assistant who had researched the matter to step forward. He handed Lake a stack of papers — more than 150 quotes from Democrats denying the results of state and national elections.
Lake schooled the reporters by reading quote after quote — telling them her 20-year-old assistant, who is not a journalist, could perhaps teach them how to do proper research.
“Oh wow! Look at this,” Lake mocked as she read from the stack of papers and held them up for the reporters to see. “This is from Joe Biden’s press secretary; ‘Reminder: Brian Kemp stole the gubernatorial election from Georgia and Stacey Abrams .’Democrats saying that. Is that an election denier?” Kari Lake asked.
And “Hillary Clinton [said], ‘Trump is an illegitimate president.’ Is she an election denier?”
After reading many quotes, Lake said:
“So it’s okay for Democrats to question elections, but it’s not okay for Republicans? It’s a crock of BS. Everyone of you knows it. We have freedom of speech, and we’re not gonna relinquish it to a bunch of fake news propagandists.”
Lake then told reporters they could have a copy of the quotes if they like:
“If you want a copy of these … I’m sure [we] can help you get a copy and help you be journalists. Look it up. It’s been happening for a long time. Since 2000, people have questioned the legitimacy of our elections. And all we’re asking is that in the future, we don’t have that happen anymore.”
An article in The Freedom Times included a link to a 10-minute video compilation of Democrats denying election results. The Twitter post is noted below:
