GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik joined Maria Bartiromo on FOX News Sunday this morning.
This was her first interview with Maria since she was elected by House members on Friday to replace Liz Cheney in the position.
During the interview, Bartiromo asked Stefanik about her support for the ongoing Arizona Senate audit of the Maricopa County election.
Rep. Stefanik said she believed what the Biden administration was doing to block the audit was unconstitutional.
“I support that audit. Transparency is good for the American people. And again, this should be a non-partisan issue, whether you are Republican, Democrat, Independent or conservative transparency is important. And the audit was passed by the Arizona State Senate. The Biden Department of Justice is trying to block that audit. That is unconstitutional from my perspective. Our states, constitutionally, are responsible for writing states constitution law,” she said.
Watch:
Stefanik won 134-46 over Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) after being endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
”I’m truly honored and humbled to earn the support of my colleagues to serve as House Republican Conference Chair,” Stefanik said in a statement after her election.
“House Republicans are united in our focus to fight on behalf of the American people to save our country from the radical Socialist Democrat agenda of President Biden and Nancy Pelosi. The American people are experiencing an economic crisis, a border crisis, an energy crisis, and a national security crisis due to Far-Left radical policies.”
At a press conference following the vote, Stefanik clearly contrasted the message that came from Cheney, stating that the party wanted to work with Trump, whereas Cheney repeatedly stated that Trump should not have any role in the party.
