Many have asked, “Will Ron DeSantis run for president of the United States in 2024?” Over the weekend, a reporter tried to pin him down and have the governor answer the question. This is what happened …

DeSantis, the highly popular Republican governor of Florida, appeared on “Fox & Friends” over the weekend. Host Pete Hegseth asked: “We know President Trump is considering a run. We know your name is atop that list as well. Where does that all sit in your mind right now?”

DeSantis hedged and, once again, avoided answering the question directly. He said: “It just sits when people always bring up my name. We’ve got a lot going on.”

The governor deftly shifted the conversation to the 2022 midterms, noting that his focus is to support a “red wave,” which, he argues, is likely as most Americans are soundly rejecting President Biden and DNC progressive policies.

Hegseth attempted to approach the key question from a different angle while referencing the remake of the movie “Top Gun.”

“You should see ‘Top Gun,’ it’s amazing.” Hegseth said.

Hegseth then awkwardly inserted the rephrased question: “[I’m] Genuinely curious; if he [Trump] runs, do you run? How do you make that decision?”

Perhaps surprised but not taking the bait, DeSantis said, “Nice try man. We’re having fun here. It’s all good.”

Cohost Ainsley Earhardt followed up by asking the question more broadly: “When will you announce or when will most candidates announce? Not until after midterms?”

DeSantis replied: “I have no idea. At the end of the day, the interesting thing about me is people always inject my name into it just based off what I’m doing in Florida. And so, you know, we’ve really gotten more notoriety not because I’m out trying to do that just because I’m getting things done for my people in my state.”

Many outside of Florida agree with DeSantis’ high-profile dealings with Disney, woke educators, progressive Biden administration policies and the Southern border issue. Many see DeSantis as a strong and charismatic leader who could be a frontrunner in the 2024 presidential election.

A poll taken at the 2022 Western Conservative Summit found that among Republican notables, DeSantis received a 71% favorability rating, Trump received 68% and Ted Cruz received 29%.

DeSantis dismissed the significance of the early poll, noting, “They just put my name to these things, you know? So, what am I supposed to do?”

The governor’s wife, Casey, 41, was diagnosed with breast cancer last fall. Some speculate Casey’s health issue is tempering thoughts of a presidential run. The RTM staff wishes Casey and the governor all the best.
