A Republican shares facts, a Democrat is offended—another day in America.
The Daily Wire reports that that is precisely what happened when a speaker at a Small Business Committee hearing noted that United States President Joe Biden does not have expertise or experience in the small business sector.
Nydia Velázquez, Chair of the Small Business Committee, was angered when Freshman Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) made statements that painted the Biden Administration’s efforts to boost the economy in an unfavorable light.
The live feed of Donalds’ comments, posted to YouTube, show Donalds questioning and criticizing Biden Administration policies.
He asserts that Biden’s plan to have OSHA enforce a vaccine mandate is “unconstitutional.” He also accuses Biden of intending to enforce vaccine mandates on all businesses, “not just those with over 100 employees.”
Donalds refers to the Administration’s pandemic-related lockdowns, policies, and vaccine mandates as “totalitarian.”
He challenges the view that inflation is “pandemic induced” and points to Biden’s unemployment incentives (“social spending”) and strict “environmental guidelines” as lead causes for the supply chain crisis.
Donalds also charged that the Administration-pushed “child tax credits” will hurt, not help, small business owners.
Donalds added: “We all know Biden does not know much about the economy. [Biden] hasn’t worked a day in his life outside of Washington D.C.”
Velázquez was upset enough by Donalds’ comments to interrupt the proceedings and accuse him of violating the quorum.
Donalds responded:
“Madam Chair, the President has never worked in our economy. Those are facts… That’s the truth of the matter. He has never worked a day in the economy…To point out that fact, to illustrate the fact that we’re talking about major economic policy that impacts the 31 million small business owners in our country is not [violating] the quorum.”
Donalds’ assertions regarding Biden’s employment record are largely supported in a report by the Miller Center. That report notes that Biden briefly worked as a lifeguard at a public pool when he was a college student but affirms that Biden has no work experience in the small business or corporate sectors.
