Fox News host Sean Hannity drew considerable attention to himself after he described the coronavirus pandemic as “serious” and said he supports vaccination.
In detail: Hannity urged his viewers to do their research and talk to their doctors to make an informed decision about whether they should get the COVID-19 jabs. The Fox News host said everyone should take the virus “seriously” and that he believes “in the science of vaccination.
He stopped short of calling on his viewers to get vaccinated. Politico described his remarks as the “monologue of the night.”
What he said: “Please take Covid seriously. I can’t say it enough. Enough people have died. We don’t need any more death,” Hannity began. “Research like crazy. Talk to your doctor, your doctors, medical professionals you trust based on your unique medical history, your current medical condition, and you and your doctor make a very important decision for your own safety.”
He then highlighted the importance of “medical privacy” and “doctor-patient confidentiality,” and said: “And it absolutely makes sense for many Americans to get vaccinated. I believe in science, I believe in the science of vaccination.”
Later, during a segment on universities requiring students to get vaccinated, Hannity mentioned a woman who he said was paralyzed for a month after taking a different vaccine in 2019 and noted that there are very “rare cases where people have serious underlying health conditions that could be aggravated by the vaccine.”
“That’s why it’s important you research, talk to your doctors, and you make the decision — in conjunction with your doctor — that is best for you,” Hannity said.
Worth noting: The clip of Hannity’s monologue has been viewed more than 5.7 million times on Twitter. Some saw it as a change in tone on the network regarding vaccination.
Not a first: “Fox & Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade recently compared the decision not to take the vaccine to cliff diving.
“Listen, if you didn’t get a vaccination, that’s your choice,” Kilmeade said. “If you want to go cliff-diving this weekend, you don’t have to check with me. It seems a little dangerous, but I’m not going to judge you
Co-host Steve Doocy added: “99 percent of the people who are dying from Covid are unvaccinated.
“If you have the chance, get the shot. It will save your life,”‘ Doocy later said.
During another segment, Fox News medical contributor Marc Siegel said: “The vaccine works extremely well even against the delta variant, preventing infection in 90 percent of cases.”
