A Joe Rogan interview with self-described liberal talk show host Bill Maher shows universal contempt for government corruption and waste.
The Tuesday discussion between the two spoke of pandemic-related government programs and President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better initiative.
“The percentage of graft keeps getting higher and higher,” Maher proclaimed, noting 20 percent of unemployment checks provided during the pandemic were complete frauds.
J.K. Rowling got money for her play, the talk show host stated before remarking, “If she didn’t get it, she’d be living in her car.”
Maher smiled at his own joke before asking if there was a number that doesn’t tip him over to the Republican side where he can’t complain about money that is being stolen.
“As a good liberal, I totally accept the notion you cannot transfer money except with a leaky bucket,” Maher noted. “I get it. It can’t be perfect.”
“Is there no number for which I cannot remonstrate against this?”
The loquacious talk show host said the 20 percent fraud amount was just for the enhanced unemployment benefit, claiming the PPE checks were for even more waste.
He explained that California wanted to build a railway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. “When they finally pulled the plug, it was at $200 million per mile,” he exclaimed.
France, a country known for unions and worker’s rights, built their high-speed rail system for like one-seventh of what The Golden State spent, he claimed. He noted that worked out to something like $15 million per mile.
“When I hear about ‘Build Back Better,’ certainly the country needs to get rebuilt, Maher opined the infrastructure is a mess. But, when you give me a number, it seems like you pulled it out of your ass. It’s going to cost $1.5 trillion? And it came in right at that round number?”
Maher wondered what would the result be if the United States only spent $1.2 trillion for infrastructure improvement.
“What would we be sacrificing? Anything?” he asked. “So much of that money is going to consultants and just siphoned off by all the pigs at the trough.”
The acknowledged liberal stated that is not a Republican idea.
“It’s just…” he began before pausing to search for words.
“Common sense?” interjected Rogan.
“Yeah,” Maher agreed, “right.”
