On Monday, Joe Biden’s daughter Ashley and granddaughter Natalie attempted to pull him away from reporters while the family was on the Rehoboth Beach walk.
“Nope, like no more – No more questions,” Ashley Biden said as she came up behind her father.
The president started to answer one question about the upcoming G7 conference and his plans there, saying, “’Yes, one of the things that you may recall that I initiated was the international flat tax. We got 140-some nations to sign on,” he said.
However, he was quickly pulled away by Natalie, who was at his left shoulder. “This is my son Beau’s oldest daughter and she’s trying to tell me ‘dad, grandpa, pop, get going,’” he said. The conversation shifted to the Bidens’ Father’s Day celebrations, where Natalie and Ashley said they had dinner, hung out and did puzzles with the president for Father’s Day on Sunday.
Watch:
Biden and his family spent time along the beach walk on Monday, a federal holiday due to Biden’s bill last year to include Juneteenth.
During the weekend, Biden took a tumble off his bike, but said he was “feeling great,” the next day, offering an explanation for the fall.
“What happened was, do any of you guys ride bikes? Well, they have some that have this thing you put your toe in — holds your foot so it doesn’t slip out. I was getting off the bike, and it got stuck on the right side,” he said.
Also during the weekend, Biden rebuffed claims that a recession was inevitable. He said that he had been in talks with Larry Summers, a former economist under former President Barack Obama, and rejected the claims that a recession was inevitable.
One reporter told him that many people were saying ideas to the contrary, to which the president replied, “No, the majority of them aren’t saying that. Don’t make things up. Now you sound like a Republican politician.”
Biden also discussed the rising price of gas, which just passed a $5 national average, and claimed that the administration was weighing multiple options, including a national gas tax holiday. The president claimed he would be determining whether or not to issue a federal gas tax holiday later this week.
