A Texas judge had already entered a default judgement against Jones — declaring him guilty without a trial — because he reportedly failed to respond to court orders or submit requested documents. The purpose of the Texas trial that just ended was to determine the monetary amount of damages Jones should pay to the plaintiff parents.

Infowars founder Alex Jones was sued for defamation by the parents of Jesse Lewis, a six-year-old who was one of 20 children fatally shot at Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Newtown, Conn.

Jones had claimed on his show and in interviews, according to a New York Times report, that the 2012 school massacre was a hoax and further claimed the victims’ families were actors. He began calling it a secret plot planned by the government to justify taking away the guns of U.S. citizens.

“I was wrong,” Jones said after the jury award amount was determined. “Sandy Hook happened. I admit it happened.”

He explained he made a mistake and admitted he followed disinformation but said it was not done on purpose.

In a video released by Jones, he equates the $4.2 million verdict against him a victory from jurors who saw through what he considers judicial bias and attorney greed.

“The lawyers for the plaintiffs asked for between $150 million and $3 billion,” Jones said. “The jury came in this evening with $4.2 million.”

He also claimed the judge told the jury he was guilty more than 20 times during the last week and a half of the trial while he was present in the courtroom.

The Infowars host said the plaintiff’s lawyers were yelling at his attorneys in the halls after the juror’s award was announced. “They were so angry,” he said, “because they thought they would get hundreds of millions of dollars we don’t have.”

Jones explained he and his company, which is currently in bankruptcy court, do not have the award amount between them, but he would work to get the plaintiff parents the money they deserve.

“We are so broke,” Jones declared, “I’m not even worried about that $4 million.”
