Disturbing videos taken at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan on Monday show hundreds of people rushing onto the tarmac in a desperate attempt to join departing flights as the country falls to Taliban rule.
Watch the videos: One of the videos, shown below, captures the moment a massive U.S. Air Force C-17 aircraft attempts to take off as streams of Afghan citizens crowd the runway, with some clinging to the sides and undercarriage of the plane.
Reports soon emerged that some of the young men managed to hold themselves on the plane even as it took off, but soon fell to their deaths in the neighborhoods outside the airport. One local said the men fell on top of people’s houses, making “a loud and terrifying noise.”
Another video, seen below, appears to show the moment one of the men fell from the plane.
In an attempt to restore order and allow aircrafts to safely depart, the U.S. deployed Apache helicopters to escort the planes down the runway and clear the swarms of citizens seeking to evacuate the war-stricken country.
Worth noting: Despite the withdrawal of U.S. troops, Biden has now authorized more forces to enter Afghanistan to ensure the safe evacuation of American officials and allies.
