The children’s cartoon show ‘Blue’s Clues’ has recently released a song in which a drag queen teaches kids about different types of families, as well as gay, transgender, and nonbinary individuals.
The story: The sing-along song, released in honor of LGBTQ Pride Month in June, features an animated version of drag queen Nina West, a “RuPaul’s Drag Race” contestant from season 11, singing to the melody of “The Ants Go Marching.”
In this video, titled “Blue’s Clues Pride Parade Sing-Along,” the lyrics have been changed to introduce the LGBTQ community. West’s character specifically sings of a parade where different families, including gay couples, people who identify as non-binary, as well as trans individuals, march on the street.
She also mentioned “ace bi and pan” and “allies to the queer community.”
“Hi Blue, look at all these families. It’s time for a pride parade,” West’s animated character says in the video.
The character, who holds a microphone with a raised fist icon, starts by pointing to a family that has“two mommies … [who] love each other so proudly.” Other families have“babas [that] are nonbinary,” “two daddies,” and “trans members.”
“All families are made differently and they love each other so proudly, and they all go marching in the big parade,” West proclaims at the end of the song. “Love is love is love, you see and everyone should love proudly and we’ll all go marching in the big parade. Thanks Blue, happy Pride Month.”
Worth noting: The comments on the video on YouTube have been disabled.
West celebrated the release of the song on Instagram, writing: “What a way to kick off Pride Month than with my pal, Blue! Singing and dancing in the streets celebrating Pride is so much fun, especially with all of our new friends! Check out the full video at the link in my bio! HAPPY PRIDE!”
Not a first: Another video on the series’ YouTube channel shows Blue and host Josh opening mail from children who discuss sexual orientation, equality, and the different pride flags.
