On Monday, multiple news outlets reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had claimed that his country is expected to be attacked by Russia this week.
Soon after, however, it was reported that Ukrainian officials had told journalists that Zelensky was not being literal, and that his comments were “ironic.”
“CNN has been told by Mykhailo Podoliak, a Presidential adviser, that Zelensky was being ironic with his comment,” tweeted CNN’s Kylie Atwood.
In the following translated Facebook post, Zelensky said that the Ukrainian government has been informed that an invasion will be launched in two days, on Wednesday, February 16.
President Zelensky did not release the source of this information.
In addition, The Associated Press has reported that Russia was looking at Wednesday, February 16, as a target date for an attack. This was based on U.S. intelligence, even though officials have been unable to confirm an attack timeline.
