The world’s second-richest man broke the Internet with a criticism of a Twitter post by U.S. President Joe Biden.
“You want to bring down inflation?” asked U.S. President Joe Biden in a Friday evening tweet. “Let’s make sure the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share.”
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who also owns The Washington Post, thought the tweet merited attention from the new Disinformation Governance Board.
He seems to discount the possibility that the new DHS group is designed to spread disinformation rather than fight against it. Since Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has not laid out the parameters and responsibilities of the new security group, its purpose is open for speculation. Bezos believes, apparently, it is working for U.S. citizens instead of against them.
“The newly created Disinformation [Governance] Board should review this tweet, or maybe they need to form a new Non Sequitur Board instead,” Bezos commented on his Twitter account. “Raising corp taxes is fine to discuss. Taming inflation is critical to discuss. Mushing them together is just misdirection.”
One Twitter follower, a self-described cyber hooligan, told Bezos “pay your taxes.”
Republican Mike Hahn suggested a better path for the multibillionaire to follow in educating the president about economics. “Don’t you own a major newspaper?” Hahn asked in a Saturday morning comment.
“What if…and hear me out…the Washington Post started to hold this White House accountable?”
Other conservatives added their voice to the pounding Bezos was getting on social media.
“Jeff is just pissed that the government Disinformation Board is taking work from the newspaper he owns,” declared David Reaboi. “That’s the Post’s job.”
Johnathan Larsen, managing editor of The Young Turks responded, “Oh look the billionaire is telling us what is ‘fine’ to discuss.” So, even the left was joining the “bash Bezos” party.
