After announcing her departure from the Democratic Party, former congresswoman (D-HI) and 2020 presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard wasted no time throwing her political clout behind a Republican running for a seat in the Senate.
Retired Army Gen. Don Bolduc confirmed on Wednesday that Gabbard would be stumping for him in the weeks leading up to November’s midterms. Bolduc won the New Hampshire primary on Sept. 13. He will face Democratic incumbent Maggie Hassan.
In his statement regarding receiving the endorsement of a notable Democrat, Bolduc said:
“We don’t agree on every issue, but I am honored to have the support of Tulsi Gabbard who shares my view that the status quo is broken, and we need a change of direction. Tulsi is a fellow change agent and independent-minded outsider willing to speak truth to power.”
Bolduc is also endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
Gabbard is known as an independent thinker and firebrand. Though she ultimately supported Joe Biden in his run for president in 2020, she has since become so disillusioned with the DNC that she posted her decision to leave the Democratic Party on Twitter on Tuesday.
Her post has garnered almost 8,000,000 views in just a few days. Her follow-up interviews with Tucker Carlson and Joe Rogan have been equally popular.
Gabbard has impressive credentials. She served three terms in the House and was the vice chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2013 to 2016. Gabbard is also a combat veteran and serves as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve.
“If you can no longer stomach the direction that the so-called woke Democratic Party ideologues are taking our country, then I invite you to join me,” Gabbard said in her farewell to the DNC. Holding nothing back, Gabbard argued that Democrats “divide us by racializing every issue & stoking anti-white racism, who actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms enshrined in our Constitution.”
“President [Joe] Biden,” Gabbard added, “campaigned on a message of unity, healing the partisan divide bringing the country together. [But] he just gave a big speech saying supporters of President Trump are the most extremist group in our country and a threat to our democracy. That’s half the country,” Gabbard said in amazement.
Gabbard has not revealed her future political ambitions or with which political party she will affiliate.
As for Bolduc, he closed his statement by saying:
“I am going to spend every day between now and election day building a wide coalition of supporters that includes Republicans, independents, and even disaffected Democrats who know that Senator Hassan is a career politician and must be retired.”
