In Jan. 2020, Trump declared that America was “energy independent for the first time in decades.” The claim has been disputed but was verified by the Institute of Energy Research in May 2020.

In a two-pronged strategy to make America less reliant on foreign oil and natural gas, Trump pushed for increased oil production and eased environmental restrictions imposed during the Obama administration.

Speaking of his goal to make America Great Again during a Nov. 2, 2020 speech in Michigan, Trump said:

“As long as I’m president, we will remain the No. 1 one producer of oil and natural gas anywhere on this planet.”

Trump added: “And for the first time, we are energy independent. You never heard that term before. We’re energy independent.”

At the time of his speech, the national average price for a gallon of gas was $2.20. Today, less than 16 months later, gas prices have risen approximately 70%.

Adding to Biden’s woes is Trump’s consistent reminders of his predictions regarding what would happen if Biden was elected President.

Trump warned: “If Biden [becomes President], you’d be paying seven dollars, eight dollars, nine dollars. Then they’d say, ‘get rid of your car.'”

Others have been critical of Biden’s handling of the economy and policies that impact energy prices. Last June, CNN reported that Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) blamed Biden for the rising gas prices. Jordan tweeted:

Average gas price:

June 2020: $2.21
June 2021: $3.07

President Biden’s economy!

— Rep. Jim Jordan (@Jim_Jordan) June 21, 2021

Jordan’s tweet was echoed by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and many others.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has tried to make the case that Biden’s policies have “nothing to do with gas prices,” but poll numbers indicate that few believe the administration’s assessment. Indeed, according to multiple media outlets, more and more are becoming “dissatisfied” with the beleaguered President.

The media widely criticized Trump when he warned that Biden policies would negatively impact America’s energy independence and economy. At the time, The Washington Post wrote that Trump’s claim was “dubious” and cited “experts” who stated his concerns were “overblown.”

Like too many aspects of the book, 1984, ominous predictions are being realized. On Saturday, regular gas at a station near the Beverly Center mall in Los Angeles was priced at $6.95 a gallon—premium for $7.55, according to a report on WRC-TV.

The Western Journal reports  that 16 months after his “initial prediction,” the former President “clearly has not forgotten his warning, and he is asking Americans to take notice.”
