The man expected to win Pennsylvania’s Democrat primary to replace Senator Pat Toomey, R-Penn., had a stroke of luck Friday.
Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman said he went to the hospital Friday after not feeling well. “I didn’t want to go — I didn’t think I had to — but Gisele insisted, and as usual, she was right.”
It was lucky for him he listened to his wife, Gisele, because it turned out he was diagnosed at the hospital as suffering from a stroke.
“I hadn’t been feeling well, but was so focused on the campaign that I ignored the signs and just kept going,” Fetterman said. “On Friday it finally caught up with me. I had a stroke that was caused by a clot from my heart being in an A-fib rhythm for too long.”
“Fortunately, Gisele spotted the symptoms and got me to the hospital within minutes.”
The leading Democrat Senate candidate praised doctors at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital who treated him. In a statement from the hospital, he credited them with completely removing the clot that caused the stroke and getting his heart under control. Fetterman said it served as a good reminder to listen to your body and be aware of the signs of stroke.
“The good news is I’m feeling much better, and the doctors tell me I didn’t suffer any cognitive damage,” he said. “I’m well on my way to a full recovery.”
Fetterman holds far-left views on subjects like abortion, saying he does not believe there should be any limits on abortion.
“Abortions are going to continue in America whether it is legal or not,” Fetterman said. “They just won’t be safe, if they are illegal, and we can’t ever go back to that. We just can’t.”
If he wins Tuesday’s primary, he will face off against the Republican nominee for the Senate seat up for grabs after Sen. Toomey announced he would not run for another term.
Dr. Mehmet Oz, the candidate endorsed by former President Donald Trump, is in a tight three-way contest with hedge fund executive David McCormick and political newcomer Kathy Barnette.
Barnette was initially ignored by party powers, but her recent meteoric rise in recent polls has thrown a monkey wrench in a lot of political plans.
