Politicians and scandal seem to be fast friends. The truism reared its ugly head again on Monday when a Federal Election Commission report showed that Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) routed more than $200,000 in campaign funds “to entities controlled by his relatives,” according to the Daily Caller.
Clyburn, 81, has represented South Carolina since 1992 and currently serves as Majority Whip, the third-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives.
Fox News first reported Federal Election Commission findings. They show that Clyburn made 15 rental payments to a company controlled by a daughter and son-in-law, and 39 direct payments to another daughter and son-in-law.
The report also notes that Clyburn’s grandson appears to be a salaried employee, having received twice-monthly payments from the Clyburn campaign since October 2021.
