Tom Brady is a bit of an enigma. The seven-time Super Bowl champion captures headlines, overcomes and finds a way to win, and continues to be among the top tier of professional athletes even as he is pushing 45-years-old.
Talk of retirement has been whispered for more than a year. In January, Brady announced retiring. Forty days later, Brady said he “was not looking to come out of retirement, but never say never.”
Today, Brady is “unretired” and slated to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022. But if Brady does not stick to that, Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch announced that Brady will officially join Fox Sports as its “lead NFL analyst.”
Murdoch announced the job offer on several platforms on Tuesday. He first shared the update on Fox’s earnings on Tuesday morning. He followed that interview with a tweet:
“We are delighted that Tom has committed to joining the Fox team and wish him all the best during this upcoming season.”
Murdoch repeated the announcement on Fox Sports’ Twitter, writing:
“Over the course of this long-term agreement, Tom will not only call our biggest NFL games with Kevin Burkhardt, but will also serve as an ambassador for us, particularly with respect to client and promotional initiatives.”
Brady chimed in, tweeting: “Excited, but a lot of unfinished business on the field with the @Buccaneers.”
Never idle, since his reported retirement last January, Brady launched a new clothing line and a TB12 sports program. He also is set to produce and act in a road trip football-themed comedy.
Noting the far-reaching influence of the sports icon, in February The Hollywood Reporter noted that Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field would star in the movie titled “80 for Brady.”
In April, Brady told ESPN he was not content with his decision to retire and was not ready to step away from the game.
“At the end of the day, I just love the competition on the field,” Brady told ESPN. “And last year was a very bitter ending to a season and we’ve got to make a lot of corrections to try to improve and put ourselves in a better position to succeed moving forward.”
Brady appears to have many options, serving as “lead NFL analyst” for Fox Sports among them. People Magazine reported that Brady previously stated he could play until age “50 or 55.” Many anxiously await what news the new season will bring.
