Of the 50 Democratic Senators in the United States Senate, five responded yes to the Daily Caller’s question, “Will you support President Joe Biden in his 2024 presidential bid?”
Senate Majority Leader and Democratic New York Sen. Chuck Schumer’s spokesperson responded to the Daily Caller with a one-word answer: yes.
Spokespeople for both Tim Kaine of Virginia and Jack Reed of Rhode Island responded the same way: yes.
New Jersey Senator Cory Booker’s spokesperson said, “Yes, Senator Booker supports President Biden for re-election should he run again in 2024.”
Finally, Delaware Senator Chris Coons’ spokesperson referenced the senator’s recent comments on Biden’s possible reelection bid. “It’s my understanding that the president intends to seek a second term, and I understand why,” Coons said in a Monday interview, adding that Biden’s “leadership on the world stage has been impressive.”
Coons also discussed reasons to support Biden in a reelection bid, citing Biden’s performance in foreign policy, the $1 trillion infrastructure bill, his vow to tackle health care costs and his “clear plans” on how to handle inflation.
However, he did not directly say whether or not he would support Biden in 2024.
The spokesperson proceeded to clarify, saying, “Yes, if President Biden runs, he’ll support him.”
Of the remaining 45 senators, none responded to several requests for comment on Biden’s possible 2024 presidential bid, a question that is becoming increasingly pressing as the 2022 midterms loom and Biden’s approval rating has sunk to an all-time low.
This week, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez refused to clearly state if she would endorse Biden in the 2024 election, saying, “we’ll take a look at it” when the time comes. Many Democratic senators have been hesitant to vocally support Biden for 2024, citing his age. Biden’s approval rating has no doubt influenced some of this indecision as well.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed on Wednesday that Biden plans, at present, to run in 2024.
“The president, as you know, has been asked that question many times, and he has answered it. His answer has been pretty simple, which is, yes, he’s running for reelection. I can’t say more than that.”
