Politicos and journalists on social media erupted in commentary on Thursday after the Supreme Court blocked a Biden administration mandate that would have forced private businesses with at least 100 employees to require workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or submit to regular testing.
“OSHA’s COVID–19 Vaccination and Testing; Emergency Temporary Standard, 86 Fed. Reg. 61402, is stayed pending disposition of the applicants’ petitions for review in the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and disposition of the applicants’ petitions for writs of certiorari, if such writs are timely sought. Should the petitions for writs of certiorari be denied, this order shall terminate automatically. In the event the petitions for writs of certiorari are granted, the order shall terminate upon the sending down of the judgment of this Court,” the court said.
Reporter Philip Wegmann posted via Twitter that President Joe Biden has had a “tough 48 hours.”
“Biden’s Tough 48 Hours: He slips to 33% approval in Quinnipiac, Sinema slams the door on a filibuster carve out while he is on the Hill, and then the Supreme Court blocks his vaccine mandate for private business,” he posted.
Similarly, podcast host and writer Stephen L. Miller noted of Biden’s day: “Fun day for the administration,” he snarked.
Others celebrated the “Victory for freedom,” as Republican Mark Meadows commented.
Former Vice President Mike Pence echoed, “Freedom Wins!”
“A wonderful day for the unvaccinated!! Thank you SCOTUS,” The Daily Wire’s Candace Owens posted. “Now Congress needs to abolish OSHA for even making the attempt.”
“A victory for science — and liberty,” said Bryan Dean Wright.
“This a win for the Constitution and ‘We the People,’” wrote Rep. Jason Zachary (R-TN). “Thankful for SCOTUS’s ruling and all those who engaged on behalf of the America people.”
“This is a FREE country,” wrote Republican TX Rep. Troy Nehls (TX). “No matter what the Biden administration would have you believe.”
“Great,” said politico Logan Hall, “now overturn [Roe v. Wade].”
