United States Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) tweeted on Tuesday about an email that suggests that America evacuated thousands of Afghan nationals in August without proper vetting.
The accusation that U.S. authorities did not properly vet Afghans before their release into American cities is not new.
On Aug. 24, former U.S. President Donald Trump released the following statement:
“Biden surrendered Afghanistan to terrorists and left thousands of Americans for dead by pulling out the Military before our citizens. Now we are learning that out of the 26,000 people who have been evacuated, only 4,000 are Americans. You can be sure the Taliban, who are now in complete control, didn’t allow the best and brightest to board these evacuation flights. Instead, we can only imagine how many thousands of terrorists have been airlifted out of Afghanistan and into neighborhoods around the world. What a terrible failure. NO VETTING. How many terrorists will Joe Biden bring to America? We don’t know!”
Senator Ted Cruz (D-Tex.) expressed his concern in early September, telling a reporter with Fox News, “I’m very concerned that the Biden administration is bringing tens of thousands of refugees into the United States without thoroughly vetting them.”
According to a Fox News report, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken admitted that U.S. officials did not vet Afghans prior to their evacuation, noting that the administration was first focused on evacuating people and would later focus on the vetting process.
At a recent Congressional hearing, Under Secretary of Defense, Dr. Colin Kahl indicated that more than 20,000 evacuated Afghans did not leave situations that were considered life-threatening.
He could not provide numbers or categories of compelling reasons for the more than 84,000 Afghans he indicated were evacuated due to life-threatening situations.
Senator Hawley claims the email proves that Biden disregarded vetting protocols when he ordered troops on the ground to fill up the planes.
The email posted to Twitter reads: “Total inflow to the U.S. must exceed the number of seats available. Err on the side of excess.”
The Washington Free Beacon reports that Hawley obtained the email from a concerned official who was on the ground in Afghanistan, offering some of the best evidence to date that the Biden administration disregarded proper vetting procedures.
At a Congressional hearing this week, Hawley said, “We now know that we’ve got major problems of vetting of the people who were brought to this country, who were evacuated and brought to this country.”
Adding to immigration policy concerns are recent revelations that the Biden Administration has authorized the release of immigrants into cities across America in the middle of the night.
