A Virginia public school system pulled two books from their libraries, after a mother voiced her dissent to the sexually explicit themes and portrayal of child pornography, as captured in a now viral video.
The story: The Fairfax County Public School System in Virginia announced that they have suspended circulation of two novels with pornographic and pedophiliac depictions, in acquiescence to public and now-viral complaints made by a mother during last week’s school board hearing.
Stacy Langton, mother of a Fairfax High School student, addressed the school board last week, expressing that she was inspired to review the books at her child’s school after seeing that a mother in Texas had made similar complaints to her child’s school board.
After reviewing the books, “Lawn Boy” by Jonathan Evison and “Gender Queer” by Maia Kobabe, Langton concluded to the school board, “Both of these books include pedophilia, sex between men and boys.”
Langton’s comments: She then proceeded to read the passages evidencing her claim.
“From the author, Maia Kobabe, quote: ‘I can’t wait to have your **** in my mouth. I am going to give you the blowjob of your life, and then I want you inside me,” Langton read.
She then quoted “Lawn Boy”: “From the author, Jonathan Evison, ‘What if I told you I touched another guy’s ****? What if I told you I sucked it? I was ten years old, but it’s true. I sucked Doug Goble’s ****, the real estate guy, and he sucked mine too.'”
Shortly thereafter, school board officials interrupted Langton, stating, ironically, “There are children in the audience here.”
The school board’s response: Subsequently, the Fairfax County Public School System announced, “Circulation of Lawn Boy by Jonathan Evison and Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe will be suspended with immediate effect.”
“FCPS is in the process of convening two committees made up of staff, students and parents led by our Library Services Coordinator to assess the suitability of both texts for inclusion in our school libraries,” the school board noted in their statement. “The recommendation of the committees will be put forward to the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services who will make a final decision as to whether FCPS continues to stock these books.”
