Comedian Roseanne Barr is making a return to TV, appearing in an upcoming stand-up comedy special exclusive to Fox Nation, the streaming service of the Fox News media family.
A Fox Nation news release originally provided to The Western Journal showed that the network planned to return Roseanne to audiences across the United States.
“Roseanne is a comedy icon whose humor connects with the American audience like no other,” said Fox Nation President Jason Klarman. “Her ability to channel the challenges of everyday people and find the humor in it all has earned her the passionate following of millions of dedicated fans. We are thrilled to add her comedy special exclusively to the FOX Nation catalog.”
Fox Nation promised that the special would feature Barr’s signature irreverence towards political correctness and woke culture. “The one-hour special will feature Ms. Barr’s signature comedic take on a variety of topics, with no subject off limits,” the streaming service pledged.
Barr began her career in entertainment in stand-up comedy before the first run of her sitcom, “Roseanne,” began in 1988. However, in 2018, a revival of her show was canceled by ABC after the actress and comedian posted an insensitive tweet.
Barr apologized and agreed to leave the show in order to save the jobs of the cast and crew of the production.
“I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from [Roseanne]. I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved,” she said in a statement at the time.
In the reboot, Barr portrayed a Trump supporter who was consistently at odds with other members of her family. However, rather than portraying her as a villain, Roseanne was portrayed as an equal to her family members. The approach was popular among conservatives, who received the show positively, and it was met with critical success.
Barr has won four Emmys, three Golden Globes and a Peabody Award over the course of her entertainment career.
“A Roseanne Comedy Special” is planned to release in early 2023.
