The political future of a Republican candidate for a Maryland Senate seat is in jeopardy after his arrest for providing false information in a report to police regarding sex trafficking crimes.
The Senate candidate’s name is Ryan Dark White, but he has campaigned as Dr. Jon McGreevey.
The Hartford County Sheriff’s Office reported that McGreevey was arrested on Friday for providing false information to police.
According to the Daily Caller, in August McGreevey told police he knew of illegal acts involving minors taking place in an adult bookstore in Edgewood, Maryland. McGreevey’s allegations led to an investigation.
Surprising the candidate, the investigation found that McGreevey’s allegations were false and generated for political purposes.
The Daily Caller reports that Sheriff Jeffrey R. Gahler said:
“It is shameful that a candidate for public office would make up such a story and use it to further his own political agenda. Fearmongering and antagonism caused wasted time and energy by our personnel, whose time would have been better served protecting the citizens of Harford County, instead of investigating lies.”
The Baltimore Sun reports that Gahler added:
“The information provided to detectives claimed an older adult male was in the business with a young girl, 10-12 years of age, forcing the child to perform sexual acts on male customers.”
Investigators determined that McGreevey is Ryan Dark White, that he is an employee of the adult bookstore in question and that he is the source of the false allegations.
McGreevy was arrested and taken to the Harford County Detention Center. He will appear before a district court commissioner this week.
The Daily Caller reports that his campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
