In a previous post, RTM noted that legendary guitarist Carlos Santana, 74, collapsed while performing in Clarkston, Michigan, on Tuesday evening. At the time, there were few answers — the crowd was reportedly told to pray for Santana who was suffering from a “serious medical issue.”
One day later, a spokesperson for the music artist provided a medical update.
According to People, a spokesperson for Santana reports that the musician is “doing fine” and recovering after being “over-taken by heat exhaustion and dehydration” during the performance.
The outlet added that “the guitar great was taken from his show at Pine Knob Music Theatre (formerly DTE Energy Music Theatre), an outdoor amphitheater in Clarkston, some 40 miles northwest of Detroit, Michigan … to the emergency department at McLaren Clarkston for observation.”
Santana collapsed during his performance at about 10 p.m. The Daily Wire reported that he was removed from the stage via stretcher about 20 minutes later. Concerned fans were asked to leave the venue while Santana was rushed to the hospital.
Representatives for the music star confirmed that his upcoming show at The Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, will be rescheduled.
Page Six noted that Santana suffered a medical incident about seven months ago, prompting an unscheduled heart procedure and the cancellation of several performances in Las Vegas.
People reported that at the time, Santana said: “Last Saturday, I had an incident where I asked my wife, Cindy, to take me to the hospital because I had this thing happening in my chest. So when we went there, we found out that I needed to take care of it. So I am.”
Santana continued: “I’m going to be taking time off for a little bit to make sure I replenish, and I rest and I catch up with my health so that when I play for you, I will play the way I’m used to and give you 150 percent.”
After Santana’s heart procedure, Michael Vrionis, president of Universal Tone Management, told People:
“Carlos is doing fantastic and is anxious to be back on stage soon. He profoundly regrets that this ‘speed bump’ necessitated the cancellation of his upcoming performances.”
All are wishing Santana well and praying for a speedy recovery.
