After its last scheduled public performance, the House J6 Select Committee issued a subpoena for former President Donald Trump.
The Democratic-dominated group waited until the end of its 14-month series of hearings to question Trump. He asked why they waited so long in a Truth Social post. The former president also fired off a lengthy, scathing response to J6 Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson.
Trump raised a number of points in his 14-page correspondence to the Mississippi Democrat concerning the committee’s one-sided investigation of the Capitol riot. He castigates the committee chairman for spending more than one year investigating the riot without spending one minute considering his claims of election fraud.
“This memo is being written to express our anger, disappointment, and complaint that with all of the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on what many consider to be a charade and Witch Hunt, and despite strong and powerful requests, you have not spent even a short moment on examining the massive Election Fraud that took place during the 2020 Presidential Election,” Trump declared.
The 45th president claimed a majority of Americans say the 2020 presidential election was dishonest, noting many state legislatures decisions on voting regulations and requirements were undone by local politicians and judges. He called those usurpations of power illegal and unconstitutional.
“No work was done by the Committee on Election Fraud,” Trump lamented. “We, and a huge portion of the American people, simply asked that it be a part of your Committee’s work.”
“It wasn’t.”
Trump also wondered why the committee ruled House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser off limits. The former president explained he recommended and authorized thousands of troops be deployed to control the extremely large numbers of people expected to attend his rally.
Trump added he was right about the number of people who showed up for his rally, claiming it was the largest group he had ever addressed.
“The Department of Defense timeline shows that National Guard troops could have easily been present at the Capitol before January 6th and that I fully authorized this recommendation and request,” he stated. “Following my authorization, the Department of Defense was surprised to receive a wholesale refusal, in writing, from D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Capitol Police, who do not report to me, but report to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.”
Capitol police and Washington, D.C., officials must authorize any troop deployment in the nation’s Capitol.
He remarked that if even a small percent of National Guard troops had been deployed or fencing installed, January 6 would have been just another day in the life of the nation. Trump said he did his job by preparing to have troops on hand, claiming Pelosi and Bowser did not do their jobs because of optics.
Trump objected to the committee’s lack of Due Process, Cross-Examination and “real” Republican members. He said that without them the J6 committee has no legitimacy.
“Election Day is coming.”
