Police reportedly nabbed, partially because of a refrigerator note, an illegal immigrant for stabbing a Queens, N.Y., woman more than 55 times.
David Bonola, 44, was arrested on charges of 2nd degree murder, criminal trespass and possession of a weapon in relation to the death of Orsolya Gaal, police said.
NYPD Chief of Detectives, James Essig, Thursday said, at a press conference, they quickly ruled out the victim’s son after viewing video that cleared him. Police came to conclude that Bonola was the person shown rolling a large hockey bag down streets from the victim’s Forest Hills home.
“He voluntarily came back to the 112 precinct and made incriminating statements,” Det. Essig stated before outlining the details of the crime as they believe it happened.
Essig said, Gaal attended a show at Lincoln Center on Friday, April 15, and returned to her neighborhood by train. She stopped at 11:20 p.m. in a local establishment for a short time, he added, before returning home around 12:20 a.m. Saturday, April 16.
Investigators determined Bonola arrived at her residence between 12:30 and 12:40 a.m., gaining entry with a key he knew was kept in the barbeque. He had worked at the Gaal home as a handyman for about two years, off and on and had engaged in an intimate relationship with the victim during that time, Essig said.
“A heated argument ensue between the two, in the basement,” Essig explained, adding, “a knife is brandished. A violent struggle ensues, resulting our victim being stabbed, ruthlessly and brutally, in excess of 55 times, causing her demise.”
The chief of detectives said investigators recovered the knife they believe was used to kill Gaal at the crime scene.
“Mr. Bonola then retrieved a hockey bag belonging to Ms. Gaal’s son,” he continued. “He placed her in the bag and — as video showed — was seen rolling the body down the sidewalk, leaving a bloody trail through the streets of Forest Hills.”
A little before 8 a.m., April 16, the bag containing her body was discovered in a park at the intersection of Metropolitan Avenue and Jackie Robinson Parkway by a member of the public.
Police said the alleged assailant fled through the park after dropping the bag with Gaal there.
A report in The Daily Wire said another clue investigators reportedly relied on was a note they found taped to the Gaal family refrigerator. The report indicated the note said “GET A NEW HANDMAN.”
