The ex-wife of former President Donald Trump, Ivana, has died at 73 after being found unconscious at the bottom of a flight of stairs in her New York apartment.
Ivana is the mother of Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump. Eric and his wife Lara visited the home after her death.
Trump wrote an announcement on Ivana’s passing on Truth Social, “I am very saddened to inform all of those that loved her, of which there are many, that Ivana Trump has passed away at her home in New York City. She was a wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman, who led a great and inspirational life. Her pride and joy were her three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric. She was so proud of them, as we were all so proud of her. Rest In Peace, Ivana!”
A spokesperson for the New York City Police Department told Fox News that police responded to a 911 call on Thursday and found the 73-year-old unconscious. They pronounced her dead on arrival.
“On Thursday, July 14, 2022, at approximately 1240 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a aided individual at 10 East 64 Street, within the confines of the 19 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 73 year-old female unconscious and unresponsive. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene,” the spokesperson said.
No foul play is suspected, although police are staging outside of her apartment for security purposes.
The New York City Fire Department responded to a report of a cardiac arrest in Ivana’s home on Thursday afternoon.
A statement by the Trump family said that she was “a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend.”
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Ivana Trump. Our mother was an incredible woman — a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend. Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination. She will be dearly missed by her mother, her three children and ten grandchildren,” it read.
Ivana was born in Czechoslovakia in 1949 and was the first wife of Donald Trump. She was a model and ski racer when the two were married in 1977. Throughout the 1980s she was known for her style and elegance. In 1996, she appeared in the film “The First Wives Club,” where she spoke the iconic line, “Ladies, you have to be strong and independent, and remember, don’t get mad, get everything.”
Ivana and the former president split in 1992, but reportedly remained on good terms for the remainder of her life. She was supportive of Trump’s decision to run for president in 2016 and told the New York Post that she was both a supporter and adviser.
“I suggest a few things,” she said. “We speak before and after the appearances and he asks me what I thought.” She said she advised him to “be more calm.”
