The story: The network made the announcement on Independence Day while taking a jab at Big Tech. The social media platform is called FreeTalk 45.

In detail: FreeTalk 45 aims to provide social media users a platform that’s free of censorship. It comes as an alternative to social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter which have been accused of bias against conservatives.

Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are among the platforms that banned former President Trump in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 riot. The Twitter ban is permanent and top employees at the company have said that Trump would likely not be able to return to the platform even if he was elected as president again.

“The next generation of social networking and community. No shadow banning or censorship—just freedom of expression, pure and simple. Sign up today!”!” the platform’s sign-up page reads.

It is unclear if “45” is a reference to Trump, who served as the 45th President of the United States.

Worth noting: OAN has been on the receiving end of Big Tech’s actions. Last year in November, YouTube temporarily suspended the network’s channel. The suspension barred OAN from posting new videos for a week and took away its ability to make money off existing content.

At the time, YouTube claimed that OAN’s channel violated its COVID-19 misinformation policy “which prohibits content claiming there’s a guaranteed cure.”

“Additionally, due to repeated violations of our Covid-19 misinformation policy and other channel monetization policies, we’ve suspended the channel from the YouTube Partner Program and as a result, its monetization on YouTube,” a spokesperson for the company explained.
