The Orange County Sheriff’s Office released new details in a report on Tuesday about the death of comedian Bob Saget, saying that the fracture found in his skull could have come from him falling and hitting carpet.
The report highlighted the findings from Chief Medical Examiner Joshua Stephany’s, M.D., autopsy of Saget, who died back in January in a hotel room.
“Officials say they went back to the hotel room where Saget was staying at the time of his death to reexamine it, trying to find clues as to what he may have hit his head on,” Fox 35 Orlando reported. “The report states that they ruled out countertops, nightstands, tables and other hard furniture because they all had sharp, defined edges that did not match his injuries. They did note, however, that the entire room was carpeted.”
“[Stephany] explained that the amount of force necessary to cause the fracture, coupled with the fact that the skin on the back of the head was still intact, led him to believe that the injury was most likely caused by ‘something hard, covered by something soft,’ and he gave, as an example, a fall onto a carpeted floor,” the report stated.
“The headboard of the bed was lightly padded and set slightly out from the wall. These are listed here as possible mechanisms of injury, but nothing was located in the room that allows for a definitive conclusion.”
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office released a report back in early January that said that all the lights were off in the room and things were “orderly.”
According to the report, Saget’s “left arm was across his chest while his right arm was resting on the bed. No signs of trauma were seen.”
Saget was on the bed and was “cold to the touch, yellow and clammy” when he was discovered in his room at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes.
