Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) responded to last week’s top national news story—the illegal immigration crisis that has erupted under President Joe Biden (D)—by saying that the U.S. has “more than enough” money to take care of everyone.
Biden’s border crisis became the top news story last week after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) sent 50 illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, a wealthy liberal island off the coast of Massachusetts.
“What a lot of Republican politicians fail to understand is that not everyone shares their zero-sum, scarcity mindset,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “Many of us understand that immigrants and refugees are a blessing. They have so much to offer our country, & much of our growth as a nation is because of them.”
When she was accused on Twitter of asking DeSantis and Abbott to send more illegal immigrants to her district, New York’s 14th Congressional District, AOC responded by saying that the governors already have and that her city has more than enough resources to “help states like Florida,” even though 1.5 million people, including 1 in 4 children, struggle to feed themselves.
“Believe it or not the United States is the wealthiest nation in the world and we have more than enough to care for everyone,” Ocasio-Cortez claimed. “Instead of worshipping billionaires, if you try valuing your neighbors enough to fight for them then we can all have a better life, together.”
The U.S. National Debt to the penny was last reported by the Treasury Department on Thursday to be $30,886,835,217,014.00.
