Fox News has had a pretty tough few months, ever since the controversy that erupted during their 2020 election coverage, especially when they called the state of Arizona so unbelievably early for then-candidate Joe Biden that the liberal mainstream media even criticized them for the decision.
Since that time, and in the wake of losing more ratings battles than they ever had in the networks roughly 25-year history, Fox News executives announced several changes earlier this year that have already taken effect, such as the new “Fox News Primetime” show that replaced host Martha MacCallum’s failing show which was a lead-in to the networks heavy-hitting primetime opinion shows.
Another schedule change that will soon take place, according to The Hill, is the debut of Greg Gutfeld’s new show, simply titled “Gutfeld!,” which will replace Shannon Bream’s “Fox News @ Night” in the 11pm Eastern time slot.
Bream’s show wasn’t canceled, but it was bumped to the midnight time slot when Fox News usually begins airing reruns from earlier in the day, so the network has effectively extended its news coverage another hour.
Gutfeld, who is one of the few Fox News hosts still in the good graces of most Trump supporters, already has a weekend show known as “The Greg Gutfeld Show.” Given his new weekly show promotion, that weekend show will air for the last time this Saturday.
Of course, Gutfeld is probably most well known for his co-hosting duties on “The Five.”
Prior to “The Five,” Gutfeld was still every bit a staple on the network, as he was the long-time host of the nightly “Red Eye” show, which catered to a different demographic, as it aired in the dead of night.
“Content on the new show will include Gutfeld’s commentary on current events as well as commentary from Fox News contributors and other celebrities. The show will also employ comedians Tom Shillue, Joe DeVito and Joe Machi,” The Hill’s report indicated.
In true Gutfeld fashion, he issued a statement on the launch of his new show, according to Fox News.
“If you cannot tell the other late night shows apart, join the club. They’re as bland as string cheese and not nearly as appetizing. It’s the same jokes, the same assumptions, probably the same writers, all reading the same columns from the same hacks in the New York Times. So we aren’t going to be like them,” Gutfeld said.
“If you want something different, that isn’t afraid to take a risk and call out hypocrisy on all sides, check out ‘Gutfeld!’ And if you don’t, no hard feelings. Although I will hate you forever,”
“Gutfeld!” debuts on April 5.
