Royal staff members were allegedly treated so badly by Meghan Markle when in England, they called her a “narcissistic sociopath.” Other names staff invented for Markle included “Me-Gain,” “Duchess of Difficult” and “Di 2,” according to a new book exploring relations between the royal couple and Kensington Palace staff.
“So bad did things eventually become that Harry and Meghan’s team would later refer to themselves as the Sussex Survivors’ Club,” wrote The Times reporter Valentine Low. Her British newspaper serialized the book.
“Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir From Queen Mary to Meghan Markle” by Tom Quinn provides accounts from palace servants who’ve worked for generations of royals who lived there. The new book describes a breakdown in relations between the Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and the royal family.
The book claims private secretary Samantha Cohen, PR executive Sarah Latham and assistant press secretary Marnie Gaffney were among staff affected by Markle’s behavior. Her husband, Harry, also acted like a jerk to staff, the book suggests. One source claimed that, among other slights, the prince sent staff horrible emails.
Staff members explained to the author that part of the problem was that Palace staff were “too genteel and civil.”
“When someone decides not to be civil, they have no idea what to do,” the staff member noted. “They were run over by her, and then run over by Harry.”
The private secretary seemed prescient after the couple appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show after renouncing their royal titles and moving to the United States. Markle precipitated her and Harry’s shocking move to Los Angeles, which created a real crisis for the British Royal Family, according to a Knewz report.
“Everyone knew that the institution would be judged by [Meghan’s] happiness,” a former staff member related. “The mistake they made was thinking that she wanted to be happy.”
“She wanted to be rejected, because she was obsessed with that narrative from day one.”
