Retired Army General Michael Flynn said he believes the QAnon movement originated with a high-ranking member of the U.S. government.
Former President Donald Trump’s National Security Advisor made his remarks during an interview published by The Western Journal.
In addition to suggesting a senior government official launched QAnon as a disinformation campaign or psychological operation, he denied being connected to the movement in any way.
“This whole QAnon thing — I’ve been very public and outspoken about it,” Flynn said, “they want to tag me as though I’m ‘the guy.'”
Flynn noted his extensive experience gained in a long military career. He described during the recorded interview instances where the United States used information warfare effectively against terrorist groups like ISIS and al-Qaeda.
“One of the things that I do know about our government is our government’s ability to project, and our government’s ability to put together disinformation campaigns, psychological operations and psychological campaigns,” commented the career soldier.
He added information warfare is a tool used by the U.S. government against perceived threats.
“I raise this because… I really do believe [the QAnon movement] is some type of government campaign,” Flynn said. “Maybe it’s being done by … ultra-government organizations, you know, that are working on behalf of it.”
The QAnon movement, often labeled by legacy media as a “baseless conspiracy theory” spouts some crazy theories, Flynn said. The retired general pointed to the movement’s theories claiming Trump was “battling an entrenched bureaucracy and sex trafficking ring run by pedophiles” during his administration and saying Trump is still the acting, sitting president.
“This is me speculating, but it is also — when I speculate, I also have a level of expertise in these types of efforts,” said Trump’s National Security Advisor, referring to his extensive resume that includes service in the intelligence world. He has served in hot spots like Grenada, Haiti, Iraq and Afghanistan.
“This is something that I can see our government — and they’re going to go crazy on this — but I can see our government, you know, somewhere, at some level, putting something like this together, but bifurcating it from the government and turning it over to another body,” said Flynn.
