Since his arrest, Kyle Rittenhouse has claimed he felt threatened, was attacked, and fired in self-defense. The media has strongly contested those claims.
As previously reported, soon after Rittenhouse was arrested, he was portrayed in the media as an aggressor, compared to a “school shooter,” and characterized as “arguably a domestic terrorist.”
Fox News reported that MSNBC’s Joy Reid referred to him as a “vigilante,” and Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wisc.) used the “White supremacist” term when talking about Rittenhouse during an appearance on CNN in March.
Today, The Western Journal is reporting that a video recently made available to the defense seems to validate Rittenhouse’s claims.
President Joe Biden also accused Rittenhouse of having ties to “white supremacy” groups.
However, analysis of recent evidence seems to validate Rittenhouse’s claims.
WBBM-TV reports that an expert analysis of drone footage from the night of the shootings shows the chronology of events is as follows:
Rittenhouse was chased by Joseph Rosenbaum
Rosenbaum lunged toward the weapon Rittenhouse was holding
Rittenhouse shot Rosenbaum
28 seconds later, Rittenhouse was “running away and fell down”
While down, an unidentified man (referred to as “Jump Kick Man”) “was seen leaping toward Rittenhouse and kicking him in the face”
Rittenhouse fired two shots but did not hit that aggressor
Anthony Huber, who ABC7 depicted as a “man known for his love of skateboarding” and a “volunteer medic,” was shot while “apparently trying to wrest the gun away from Rittenhouse”
Gaige Grosskreutz approached Rittenhouse with his hands up and a pistol in his right hand. Rittenhouse fired and hit Grosskreutz in the arm when Grosskreutz lowered his hands and pointed his pistol toward Rittenhouse.
The defense is using the analysis of the video to substantiate Rittenhouse’s claim that he was not the aggressor, feared for his life, and fired his weapon in self-defense.
Lending further weight to the defense team’s assertions, Wisconsin Right Now is reporting that the man who attacked Rittenhouse, known as “Jump Kick Man,” has been identified as Maurice Freeland.
Their report indicates that Freeland is “a felon with a long criminal history and an open domestic violence charge” against him.
Dan O’Donnell, a radio host on WISN AM, reported on Tuesday that the man who kicked Rittenhouse in the face was “…a 40-year-old Black male from Kenosha with an extensive criminal record who was at the time of the Rittenhouse shootings on probation following a conviction for domestic violence battery.”
On his Twitter account, O’Donnell posted: “We have identified the mysterious Jump Kick Man who stomped on Kyle Rittenhouse as a career criminal who should have been in jail instead of part of the mob on the street the night of the shootings.”

Freeland has not been criminally charged in connection with the Rittenhouse case. Sources indicate that he contacted prosecutors and offered to testify, but in exchange, he requested immunity from an ongoing drunk driving and domestic abuse case with which he was charged in June. Prosecutors declined his offer and chose not to call him as a witness in the Rittenhouse case, the report said.
The prosecution team has been accused of multiple procedural errors in the case, prompting the defense to file a motion for a mistrial.
If it is found that the prosecution team knew the identity of the man who kicked Rittenhouse in the face, yet failed to share that information with the defense, it will lend weight to their motion for a mistrial.
