“Imagine thinking this was a good idea,” were the seven words used by podcast host Joe Rogan to describe the now-viral photograph of President Joe Biden giving his speech on the “extremism” of “MAGA Republicans”
The image showed the president with his fists in the air, standing in front of a pair of intense red lights, which were illuminating Independence Hall in Philadelphia while being flanked by a pair of marines. The photo captured his primetime speech in which he told listeners that “Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.”
Biden claimed that the GOP were threatening Americans’ “right to privacy,” for abortion, gay marriage and contraception. “[They] are determined to take this country backwards,” Biden said. “Backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love.”
The photograph, along with the speech itself, received backlash from many notable figures in the media and political realm. Barstool Sports President Dave Portnoy compared the image of Biden to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in a Friday tweet claiming Democrats should admit that the picture is “the worst imagery of all time.”
“Our president looked like f—ing Hitler,” Portnoy said. “I’m not saying he’s Hitler, I didn’t really listen to a lot of the speech. He looked like f—ing a caricature. He looked like Hitler. If you’re a Democrat, and you can’t admit how awful and how bad and how big of a misstep that was, and almost laugh at it, then you’re a demented brain.”
Townhall reporter Mia Cathell retweeted a post from senior editor for Human Events Jack Posobiec, in which he claimed that CNN appeared to adjust the camera settings in their broadcast to make the blood-red lighting look more pink.
“Watch the moment CNN slowly adjusts the camera settings when the blood-red lighting behind Dark Brandon is looking a little too authoritarian,” Cathell wrote. “By the end, the stripes on the American flag are pinkish-purple.”
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) made a crack that Biden looked more like Emperor Palpatine from the “Star Wars” series than the president of the United States.
“Palpatine looks good,” Cruz said.
