In the Twitter war between Bezos and Biden, Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, continues to keep Biden against the ropes—hammering away at the administration’s confused and poorly executed policies.
For the third time in less than a week, Bezos fired a salvo of high-profile ridicule across Biden’s bow.
On Monday, Bezos slammed the Biden administration for inaction and not-so-subtle attempts to distract attention from his recent critical comments about inflation.
Tension has escalated as Democrat leaders press for different versions of new wealth tax legislation and, as inflation spikes, blame Russia, Trump, the pandemic, the wealthy — everyone, anyone, anything except their policies.
Bezos has twice called out President Joe Biden in recent days for attempting to use “misdirection” to displace blame for skyrocketing inflation rates.
Bezos asserts the White House accepts no responsibility for crisis points in the energy, economy, immigration, civil unrest, education, supply chain, and medical sectors. Some suggest the administration is more adept at making excuses than executing policy that benefits the country.
On Sunday, the White House released this statement:
“It doesn’t require a huge leap to figure out why one of the wealthiest individuals on Earth opposes an economic agenda for the middle class that cuts some of the biggest costs families face, fights inflation for the long haul, and adds to the historic deficit reduction the President is achieving by asking the richest taxpayers and corporations to pay their fair share.”
The statement continued: “It’s also unsurprising that this tweet comes after the President met with labor organizers, including Amazon employees.”
Bezos quickly attacked the statement, referring to it as a classic diversionary tactic:
“Look, a squirrel!” Bezos wrote, then added that the administration officials “understandably want to muddy the topic.”
“They know inflation hurts the neediest the most,” Bezos continued. “But unions aren’t causing inflation and neither are wealthy people. Remember the administration tried their best to add another $3.5 TRILLION to federal spending. They failed, but if they had succeeded, inflation would be even higher than it is today, and inflation today is at a 40-year high.”
Bezos’ comments follow last week’s Bureau of Labor Statistics report that shows the Consumer Price Index increased 8.3% in April from a year ago, which is higher than the projected startling high 8.1%.
CNBC tried to defend the report by writing that though the “initial response to the report was negative, stocks were positive following the report.” However, stocks remained in red territory on Monday.
Against the background of growing tension and frustration, Bezos first took a jab at Biden last week after the president asserted the key to bringing down inflation was making sure that “the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share.”
Economists across the country immediately refuted the statement. Bezos said the comment should be remanded to “the newly created Disinformation Board.”
Bezos suggested the “Board should review this tweet, or maybe they need to form a new Non Sequitur Board instead.”
He added: “Raising corp taxes is fine to discuss. Taming inflation is critical to discuss. Mushing them together is just misdirection.”
Later last week, Biden again tweeted misinformation about inflation, claiming that he lowered the deficit and that doing so helped “ease inflationary pressures.”
“Under my predecessor,” Biden wrote, “the deficit increased every single year. This year, we’re on track to cut the deficit by $1.5 trillion – the biggest one-year decline ever. It matters to families because reducing the deficit is one of the main ways we can ease inflationary pressures.”
Bezos responded to Biden’s claim by adding context:
“In fact, the administration tried hard to inject even more stimulus into an already over-heated, inflationary economy and only Manchin saved them from themselves.”
“Inflation is a regressive tax that most hurts the least affluent,” Bezos continued. “Misdirection doesn’t help the country.”
