Rapper Gloria Rodríguez, better known by her stage name Hurricane G, has died.
Rodriguez, 52, launched her professional music career with her 1997 album “All Woman.”
Hurricane G’s death was confirmed by Erick Sermon, a member of the rap group EPMD.
The Daily Caller noted that Sermon and Rodríguez share a daughter named Lexus.
No information on the cause of death has been released, but Lexus previously revealed that Rodríguez battled lung cancer.
Sermon posted a tribute on Instagram on Sunday evening:
“My heart is hardened today. One of my good friends…. my oldest daughter mother passed away today #HURRICANE GLORIA was also a legend in her own right in the Hiphop community.
One of the first puertorican female rappers She rapped with me. @redmangilla she paved the way @keithmurray @diddy she was in all the Hiphop magazines with all the top females at the time.
She will be missed all around the world. I can’t believe this. Pray for us. Beautiful blessings. She was a beautiful person a wonderful mother as real as they come. We love u G🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”
Rodríguez’ death follows the recent deaths of rappers Lexii Alijai, 21, and Takeoff, 26.
Rapper Rah Digga commented on Twitter:
According to ET Canada, Rodríguez was “deeply connected with the rap community and has worked with stars such as Diddy and Redman.”
