The negative impact of President Joe Biden’s open border policies goes far beyond the southern border. On Wednesday, a sheriff in Idaho sounded the alarm, noting that the influx of fentanyl and methamphetamines coming across the border is directly contributing to an alarming spike in overdoses in his community.
Canyon County, Idaho, Sheriff Kieran Donahue said his community was experiencing a “crisis level” of drug-related problems and put the blame squarely on President Joe Biden.
Donahue shared his comments on “Fox & Friends First,” noting that drugs flowing into Idaho from America’s southern border were “destroying his community.”
“We’re at a crisis stage,” Donahue said. “Quite frankly. We have never seen the numbers of seizures and the amounts of any drug, including methamphetamine, like we’re seeing in fentanyl. And of course, we’re still dealing with the methamphetamine crisis we’ve been in for years.”
Donahue went on to share that drug cartels are well-established and have been very active running drugs through the porous southern border.
On July 19, Fox News profiled how Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas claimed “the southern border is secure” when speaking at the Aspen Security Forum. Many media outlets quickly challenged his statement.
On July 20, the New York Post interviewed several border patrol agents who said that Mayorkas’ comment “was a lie.”
The Post noted that Border Patrol agents have had a record 1,746,119 “immigrant encounters in 2022.
“There is not a day or night that goes by that we’re not dealing with someone associated with the Mexican cartels, at least in our community and communities throughout the state of Idaho. … We are at war with the cartels,” Donahue said, noting that drug runners are ruthless.
Donahue explained: “My family’s been threatened by these gangs, by the cartel membership. They tried to kidnap my daughter years ago. She was 16 years old. Thankfully, that case got unraveled before it actually happened.”
Donahue called Mayorkas “idiotic” for claiming the southern border is secure, adding, “this is absolutely ridiculous to think this border is secure, that we’re safe in our communities. We are not. We are on the cusp of complete collapse.”
