A lawyer for President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, said it would be improper for investigators or prosecutors to talk about the case.
“It is a federal felony for a federal agent to leak information about a Grand Jury investigation such as this one,” attorney Chris Clark said in a statement.
The Washington Post first reported that sources claim FBI investigators believe they have sufficient evidence to charge Biden. His attorney took exception to the report.
“Any agent you cite as a source in your article apparently has committed such a felony,” Clark declared. “We expect the Department of Justice will diligently investigate and prosecute such bad actors.”
Clark refused to discuss whether his client would be charged, instead telling The Washington Times Americans should be patient while prosecutors deliberate about the case.
“As is proper and legally required, we believe the prosecutors in this case are diligently and thoroughly weighing not just evidence provided by agents, but also all the other witnesses in this case, including witnesses for the defense,” Clark said in a statement to The Times. “That is the job for prosecutors. They should not be pressured, rushed, or criticized for doing this job.”
The FBI investigation of Hunter Biden, which began in 2018, was often referred to by former President Donald Trump during the 2020 presidential campaign. He was reportedly angered his then-Attorney General William Barr did not publicize the Justice Department investigation of his presidential opponent’s son for serious crimes.
After the FBI asked Hunter Biden to participate in voluntary interviews, he publicly announced he was being investigated by the feds, in December 2020.
The investigation first looked at his revenues from overseas business ties and consulting work. Investigators eventually narrowed their focus on whether he accurately reported all his income. Additional questions were reportedly raised about whether he lied on paperwork used to buy a handgun in 2018, according to the Washington Post report.
