In a Monday interview with ABC News’ Good Morning America, Hillary Clinton, former Democratic Presidential nominee, Senator, and Secretary of State, expressed her intent to be an active political voice stating, “I’m not going to be running for anything,” while noting, but I can’t stay silent when “our democracy is at stake.”
Secretary Clinton believes it is not just her right but her duty to remain active in politics. She argued in a recent interview that the United States is in a state of “full Constitutional crisis” and gravely threatened by a “very dangerous continuing high-level attack” by former president Donald Trump.
In Monday’s interview with Good Morning America, Clinton noted insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, and “disinformation” campaigns by Trump and his surrogates as factors that necessitate her continued presence on the political stage. She stated: “I really am worried about what’s happening at home and around the world…So, I’m never going to get out of, you know, being involved, worried and hopefully, trying to help in some way.”
Secretary Clinton’s comments coincide with the timing of her new book release. The novel, “State of Terror,” published by Simon & Schuster, is, co-authored by Louise Penny and described as a political thriller. The storyline follows the appointment of a woman as Secretary of State and a new president who is a “political enemy.” Some note that what Clinton describes as her “first foray into fiction” is a thinly veiled attempt to reinsert herself in the political conversation.
Hillary Clinton does not poll well. Most surveys show her approval or favorable rating to be in the 30% range, with several polls showing her approval to be in the 20’s. A March 14, 2018 piece by the Daily Wire reported: “Republicans were hoping Hillary Clinton would stay out of the public eye following her loss in the 2016 election, and Democrats are finally wishing the same.” An October 25, 2017 article was titled, Democrats distance themselves from toxic Hillary Clinton. A March 12, 2020 article in the Atlantic led with: “Why Won’t Hillary Clinton Just Go Away?”
The release of her new book and her fall speaking tour will show if Secretary Clinton can rebound in the court of public opinion.
