The JetBlue passenger who messed with former champion boxer Mike Tyson escaped with both ears intact from the incident he reportedly started.
“Unfortunately, Mr. Tyson had an incident on a flight with an aggressive passenger who began harassing him and threw a water bottle at him while he was in his seat,” Tyson spokeswoman Jo Mignano said in a statement to The Washington Post.
The Federal Aviation Authority does not like airline passengers assaulting other passengers or crew members. Assaulters face civil penalties for misconduct that “can threaten the safety of the flight by disrupting or distracting cabin crew from their safety duties.”
“At approximately 10:06 p.m., San Francisco Police officers assigned to the SFPD Airport Bureau were dispatched to a physical altercation onboard an airplane located at the Domestic Terminal of the San Francisco International Airport,” said SFPD spokesman Officer Robert Rueca in a statement to Resist the Mainstream.
“Officers arrived and detained two subjects believed to be involved in the incident,” continued Officer Rueca, noting one of them was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries. “That subject provided minimal details of the incident and refused to cooperate further with the police investigation.”
Watch the incident:
Tyson and the other man were released under 849(b) of the California Penal Code pending further investigation, police said.
Rueca added that videos of the altercation surfaced after SFPD’s initial investigation and was forwarded to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
“We do not release the names of detained individuals,” replied the police spokesman, when asked to identify the other man in the fight.
Berkeley, California, resident Sarah Burchfield was on the flight where Tyson and the other man had their conflict. She told the Calif. publication SFGATE she saw the man who irritated Tyson at a bar near the gate before the airline started boarding. Burchfield reportedly said Tyson’s opponent appeared loud and quarrelsome at the bar.
“When I boarded the flight, I thought, Oh no, that drunk guy is on our flight,” she said.
