Meghan Markle did not visit Balmoral Castle to visit her husband’s dying mother, probably because she and Queen Elizabeth II did not get along.
Questions arose when Prince Harry visited the Scottish castle his mother loved while his American wife remained in London. It turns out that is because she was not invited to visit by the family, according to an Entertainment Tonight report.
“It’s understood that the family wanted Prince Harry to be there, even though he was unable to get to Balmoral in time to see his grandmother,” Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. “But Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, was not, we understand, invited to join the family.”
“She has said she will go to Balmoral another time,” Nicholl added. “But I think it is quite significant that Prince Harry traveled to Balmoral on his own without his wife.”
Kate Middleton, appointed Princess of Wales by her father-in-law, newly appointed King Charles III, also did not travel to Balmoral. She demurred because it was the first day of school for her children. The newly elevated princess was observed picking up Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis from school Thursday.
Harry and Meghan’s children, Archie and Lilibet, are reportedly being watched by a nanny in the couple’s $14 million Montecito, California, home.
The former favorite grandson of Queen Elizabeth fell into disfavor after he married Markle because of friction that occurred between her and the royal family. Matters were not helped by a publicity-seeking wife of Prince Harry.
A chilly relationship between the royal family and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after they left Britain ended with the monarch forcing them to relinquish their royal patronages. The queen also rescinded their right to be addressed as “Your Royal Highness.”
Ice hardened over the rift between royals after the couple claimed, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, they experienced racism from royal family members. The queen was not amused.
She met her great-granddaughter Lilibet for the first time during her platinum jubilee celebration. The meeting was kept so private that the miffed monarch refused to allow the California couple to photograph her and Lilibet meeting. Nor were Harry and Meghan allowed to film any part of their visit for a Netflix special.
“Harry and Meghan wanted their photographer to capture the moment Lilibet met the Queen,” a palace staff member told The Sun. “But they were told no chance. It was a private family meeting.”
Other reports suggest the royal family kept their distance from equal amounts of discord and preventing Ms. Markle from making salacious claims about royal family members in her tell-all book.
